It’s regrettable that a Chesapeake police captain had to issue a memo to his officers laying down rules that common sense or simple courtesy would make obvious: Don’t interrupt a church service to check out a nuisance complaint.

As in a loud organ, or gospel choir.

Yet officials at Holy Temple Ministry, at 740 Great Bridge Blvd. in Chesapeake, say they’ve been interrupted repeatedly over the past year by Chesapeake police because of citizen complaints about noise.

Church Elder James Brinkley Jr. said police have come inside the church during services or sat outside the church in marked cars."
