QuietRock drywall in action

This is a great video of QuietRock in action. QuitRock is a sound damping drywall that you install just like regular drywall.

Noise and wood flooring

A reader writes in question to the St. Petersburg Times:

"Q: I live in a two-story condominium and the upstairs unit has installed wood floors. It sounds like there is a broken washing machine all day long slapping against a wall. It is almost mind-bending. Is this legal? What would have had to be in the documents for this to even possibly be legal? You have no idea of what a disappointment and of what disturbing effect this has had on my life. This was the worst purchase I have ever made. I would have rather bought a frame home infested with termites."

Soundproofing your windows with a double glazing.

Secondary glazing is when an extra glazing panel is placed on the inside of an already existing window. This second panel will help soundproof you window from outside noise sources.
One of the issues with this approach is if your existing windows are drafty, this will allow moisture from the outside to come in, and in the right conditions, the moisture creates condensation between the glass and settles at the bottom of the window.
